Hi Trudi. Im Adrian – Imogen’s Dad, who you are riding for. Thanks for doing the ride – and i saw you are in Ceduna. I grew up in Ceduna – in Tonkin street. I lived there from the age of 3, till i left home at 16, so i have a lot of memories of it!! The beaches, playing footy and cricket for Ceduna, the school, and the cliffs out the front of it where we used to hang out after school in summer. What a place!

How long have you lived there? You’re a school counsellor and teacher i see? what do you teach?

    Thanks again.

      Hi Adrian
lovely to get your message. I would love to know more about yours and Imogen’s story, but I understand if you don’t wish to, or if it not possible to share.
I have lived in Ceduna since 2000, but been on the west coast since 1991. I first taught out at Yalata School for 7 years, we had our first daughter there, then Koonibba school for just a term before having our second daughter. At this time we lived at Pt Bell for 2 years, at Brook’s farm (which you may know of) and then moved to Ceduna where we had our son.
I teach in the Junior School and you probably know some of my colleagues as they have taught there for many years, or been students at the school and are now teachers. I teach a mix of Year 1, 3 and 5 students various subjects and the rest of my time is counsellor work and running programs to support students wellbeing, which I love.
It would be lovely to meet you both in Adelaide but understand if this is not possible. Please tell Imogen she will now be in my thoughts every riding day till we reach Adelaide.

Yep – all those names and places are very familiar! I left Ceduna in around 1984, and have been back 3-4 times since then, mostly with a band i headed up, that do Christian seminars in schools (Sacred Stone). i remember doing a seminar there around 10 years ago, and saw a few teachers for when i was there!! I’m not in the band anymore – i handed it over to a much younger guy several years ago!

Immy was diagnosed with medullablastoma (a sort of brain cancer) in Oct 2013. She had been having headaches for a few weeks, then started vomiting. She had brain surgery to remove it, then a few months in hospital and home to recover, then 6 weeks of radiation on her brain and spine, then 6 weeks rest, then 9 months of intense chemo. That finished in August last year. The treatment really smashed her body and her health in so many ways.. she is now back a school 4 days a week, and still sees the tutor that RMHC funds, as well as physical therapists and speech therapists a day a week. Whilst she is currently doing really well, we have recently been told that her last MRI scan (2 months ago), showed a small lesion growing again in the original tumour site. Currently is only growing very slowly – so we now have 2 monthly scans to keep an eye on it. Right now we’re hoping and praying that it with stays slow going, or disappears! We can’t think too much about the future – there are too many unknowns with what may or may not happen. Its very unpredictable. We focus on the fact that she’s doing great at the moment – and enjoy that.

If you’re on FB, let me know, and i can add you as a friend, and add you to immys closed FB group if you like? i post updates there, and you could also post updates during the ride if you like?
