Occupation: Corporate Development & Relationships Manager, Ronald McDonald House Adelaide
I’ve worked at Ronald McDonald House for almost 1.5 years now and absolutely love it! With a background in the private sector in marketing, sponsorship and communications, this is my first role in a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation and I can easily see why so many people are drawn to this sector as the work is very tangible and rewarding.
It’s great to meet the families staying at the House and get to know them and hear their stories. I’m amazed at the hardships and emotional turmoil that these families go through, yet they are still are able to function and smile. It’s good to know that the small part we play in providing accommodation for these families goes such a long way in helping to keep their family together and ease the financial burden in a time of great need and helping to make their journey just a little bit easier along the way.
I’ve been involved in the RMHC Ride for Sick Kids SA since the very beginning when I met with Bade from Connect Sport in a previous job role and the event in SA was born out of a conversation over a cup of coffee! Fast track 6 years later and I’m now working for the charity and we’re now aiming to hit the $1 million dollar fundraising mark, since the event’s inception!
I also have a personal interest in sport, so it’s fantastic to be able to work on an event that I’m passionate about at both a work and personal level. Not to mention the great people you meet (riders and support crew) who band together for our great cause and put themselves through extreme physical demands to participate in this event! I love the comradery that occurs during this event. There’s nothing quite as bonding as sharing a 1,000km experience with a group of people and it’s fantastic that our riders and support crew often go on to become great friends!
