Getting better shouldn’t mean falling behind
“Ronald McDonald Learning Program improved my daughter’s self-esteem so she was ready to try instead of thinking everything was too hard. It made her feel special and it made her feel successful.” Parent
The RMLP helps primary and secondary school children recovering from serious illness catch up on missed education, providing individual learning programs tailored to the specific needs of each child. From improving numeracy and literacy skills to identifying and addressing learning strengths and weaknesses, the RMLP aims to make the journey back to school as smooth as possible, while also giving children a much needed boost to their confidence and self-esteem. This year, the RMLP will increase the number of students assisted from 30 to 90.
The EDMed™ program is an exciting new expansion of our commitment to education, providing accredited professional development sessions with resources to schools to assist teaching staff.
The program tackles the difficult issues associated with a student returning after extended absences with a focus on the following:
- Giving a better understanding of the effects of serious illness and treatments on a student’s learning.
- Developing ideas and strategies in planning curriculum.
- Examining the changes needed to achieve better learning outcomes.
- Understanding the teaching learning approaches specific to students with serious health issues.
